My name is Tom Shaw. I was born in upstate New York, but grew up on Long Island and in North Carolina. While in North Carolina, I attended the University of North Carolina Chapel where I received a B.A. in Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures. I later moved to Atlanta, Georgia where I founded and ran a multimedia production company that worked for clients such as CNN and Coca-Cola.
In 2006, I received my Master of Education from Georgia State University. Also, in that year, I moved to Louisville, Kentucky and began teaching social studies at Central High School. I am working on my degree in Library Media Education to further my horizons and to increase my knowledge of inquiry based learning.
I have a 9 year old son named Bennett from a previous marriage. He keeps me busy with his interests in ice hockey, cross-country, swimming, diving, chess, science club and piano lessons. I also play ice hockey, guitar (semi-professionally), and piano (not well). I collect old vinyl albums and enjoy brewing my own beer.
This past summer, I married the love of my life, Jenn. We were childhood friends who only saw each other one week a year, while on vacation in the 1970s and early 80s. 30 years after our families last vacationed together, we reunited as middle aged kids on Facebook. This time, it’s for good.
